Moshik Galanty

moshikBorn in Tel Aviv to a traditional Sephardic family, Moshik spent many hours on the beach surfing and doing extreme sports. After high school, he served in the Israeli Defense Forces Marines Unit as a combat medic and platoon commander. After the Army, he travelled around the world for 2 years, exploring Asia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and America and learning about different cultures and traditions. His connection to the Hebrew University began upon his return to Israel while doing his BA in Political Science and International Relations and Masters in Public Administration and Environmental management. During both degrees he volunteered at the Student Union in Public Relations and worked at the Rothberg International School of the Hebrew University as a Director of Extra Curricular Activities. Here he met and maintained many Hebrew U friends from around the world.

After graduation (1999), he started his internship with in the Prime Minister Office as the assistant to the Executive Director of Guidance and Education, while volunteering on the board of directors of “Project Otzma” (Jewish Agency). During that year, he met his wife – a lovely Canadian from Toronto wo, after 3 years in Israel, ‘imported’ him back to her home city Toronto without him even realizing it.

Since he moved to Canada he has been involved with the Jewish Israeli community and student life, through work and volunteering. He has worked with the Hillel organization on campuses across Canada – and has launched productions of Israeli cultural events and activities. During that time, he was the Israeli Field liaison to the “Israel Today” TV show in Toronto, helping with their shows in Israel and Canada.

After his work with Hillel, he received an award of appreciation from the Jewish Federation of Canada for his contribution to Jewish and Israeli student life. Now as the National Director of Student and Academic Affairs, he’s back working with Hebrew U – a place that that has been part of his life, family and friends for so long!

Moshik lives in Toronto with his wife and 2 kids and enjoys the extreme seasons and pure nature of this beautiful country.
