Introducing Dina Wachtel
A second generation Sabra, Dina was born in Haifa and grew up in Jerusalem right next door to Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where childhood summers where spent at the HU’s summer camps and this was a beginning of a long standing relationship.
Her family moved to Manhattan N.Y. where she spent 3 invaluable years at the esteemed Ramaz Yeshiva High School before returning to Israel for her last senior year in high school and enrollment in the Army.
Dina was drafted into the Air Force and immediately sent to officers course after which she was assigned to serve 3 years as the Administrative lieutenant officer of Talpiot – a top Ramp;D unit of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) located in the heart of Hebrew University.
Dina spent an additional 5 years on Mount Scopus at Hebrew University double majoring with a B.A. in International Relations and Sociology and graduating with an M.A. in Communications majoring in Mass Media.
Dina moved to Toronto in 2004 from Vancouver after a very successful 6 years term with the UJA -Combined Jewish Appeal of the Vancouver Jewish Federation in which she served as Campaign Director and Israel Emissary. In Toronto she renewed her relationship with HU by serving as the National Director of CFHU and in 2007 decided to move back to the West Coast and develop a Western Canadian region for the Canadian Friends of Hebrew University.
She was invited by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of an Israeli Young Leadership delegation to tour Japan and explore their culture, which ended up to be a life time experience.
Dina resides in Vancouver with her husband and two kids and together the family enjoys the West Coast life style; running, biking, hiking are some of the family favorite activities. And Dina tops it of with her love of reading books. Always happy to get your recommendation for a good read.
