We study at one of the top 100 universities in the world !

HU Voted in top 100 Universities

As students we strive to get honours, to achieve our best. It’s what we’re here for. But what about the institutions that teach us? Do they strive as much as we do. What’s the equivalent of being an honours student for a University?  It seems that HU not only expects its students to excel – but itself as well. This year HU has been ranked 64th among the world’s 100 top universities in the new Academic Ranking of World Universities issued by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. With much pride, HU can say the ranking is one position higher than last year – so they bettered their best.

What’s more, The Hebrew University was the only Israeli institution included in the top 100. It stands tall among other luminaries such as Harvard, Stanford and the University of California, Berkeley.

In the category of the top universities in the Asia Pacific region, HU was ranked fourth, just after the Australian National University and Kyoto and Tokyo universities in Japan.

So why is Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s annual top 500 ranking so highly considered internationally. Firstly, they evaluate more than 2,000 universities in the world based on academic criteria that include awards won by alumni and staff, articles published in leading scientific journals, and the number of highly quoted researchers. But most importantly they are considered more objective than other rankings.  Lets not dwell on what that means for other rankings – but rather celebrate what this means for students enjoying one of the world’s top university experiences.

In rankings for  academic disciplines, HU was  25th in computer science and in group rankings, was among the 75 best in the mathematics, economics and business administration, and among the top 100 in chemistry!

Hebrew University President Prof. Menahem Ben-Sasson is of course, delighted. But like any top student – or far-reaching athlete, he’s already setting new goals – to beat his existing record. And herein the secret to those people and institutions, organizations and entities that do  ultimately stand out. They are driven. Its not reaching the goal that gets them up in the morning, it’s the challenge of how far they can go – how many goals they can reach. Living life this way means that even the best always consider themselves students. As they are constantly learning something new and covering new terrain to reach their next goal.hu

Menahem Ben-Sasson says “ Our aspiration now is to rise in standing in order to reach the rankings of the top 50 universities in the world. We must continue to be Israel’s best university in every area.”  Stay tuned for next years rankings – do you think that HU can make this happen?
